Lost postcard: Murmansk train station This postcard was drawn in Murmansk on another postcard with a drawing by Sergei Eremkin. The quick drawing is in pencil and watercolour of Murmansk train station with the port in the background. It was sent from Murmansk, from the post office adjacent to the street that has the same name with a street where my apartment is in Moscow. The postcard was never delivered. Possibly, it was delivered to the same street name, same building number and same apartment number as mine, but in Murmansk, which would’ve been hilarious, but I do not have a confirmation on that, and this would’ve required them to disregard the word “Moscow” and the postcode. Most likely, the post office disregarded the postcard altogether. This is likely because the postcard was mailed using a postcard fee, lower than a letter fee. Post office workers are often not well familiar with fees, and might have considered the postcard was not sufficiently paid. So far, this is the second postcard in my experience that was confirmedly lost in transit, the first being a postcard sent from Nami island of “Naminara Republic” of South Korea. https://www.patreon.com/posts/60981957/

The Peacock Clock, St. Petersburg
Drawn and painted with ink on both sides, the back shows a golden branch from the Peacock clock, and the front shows the peacock as a whole. The Peacock Clock automaton dated 1766-1772 was designed by James Cox, later imported from Britain to Russia disassembled then and re-assembled, without any documentation, by Ivan Kulibin. This postcard is a case of “seapost” postage as it was sent using a postbox onboard the ship. The ship has departed Helsinki on December 31 and arrived to Stockholm on January 1. The mail remained onboard for the return trip to Helsinki. MS Silja Serenade crew stamped the postcard (on the left) and then transferred the postcard to the postal authorities of Helsinki which cancelled the postcard (on the right) using a special stamp. Note the word “navire” (ship) on the cancellation stamp, this is unique, and is refereed as “paquebot cancellation”. The postage stamp used is of 1990 Postage Stamps Design Contest. The postcard is from Kamakura, and signed “Kanon of Kamakura” with the Japanese text saying “鎌倉是谷寺観音”, referring to Hasedera temple.
