Postcard: Georgia, Batumi
[Опубликовано: 2025-09-19 17-25 UTC±0]

Vertical painting in watercolour with ink lines. In the middle on the bottom is a black and white cat, with white on the bottom and black on the top. The cat's blackness is painted in purples and blues. The cat has green eyes. The cat lays below a tree, in a grass. On the left from the cat is soil with stones. On the tree there's a green ribbon. Behind the cat and the tree is the tiled sidewalk and cobbled street, on the right are three people walking away, one woman in long skirt and with a headscarf, another with shirt the knees, and another teen boy in t-shirt and shorts to the right.

Composite scan with the painting described before on the left side of the scanned postcard. On the right, on top of the address field superimposed is the front of the postcard, a symbolic silhouetted skyline of Batumi with the clock tower and the observation tower, on the right is the silhouette of a dolphin, below it's signed "Batumi". Above the address field are two stamps, the stamp on the left has in its center a photo of an inscription in stone, on the left says "Israel-Georgia" in Hebrew and English, on the right has Israeli and Georgian flag, a price of 6.50, and says in Hebrew and English "30 years of diplomatic relations". Above it says "Georgian Asomtavruli Script Umm Leisun, Jerusalem, 5th-6th Centuries". Below it says "A Georgian monastery from the byzantine period at Umm Leisun". The stamp on the right says "Overland Mail" and is priced 7.60, it's from the series "Mail in Eretz Israel", in the middle is a photo of a truck "Haim H Nathaniel Overland Mail Service" superimposed on an envelope "First Overland Baghdad-Haifa". Below is a top part of an old photo of one of Haifa train stations.

Ink and watercolour painting of a street scene from Batumi’s Old Town, painted on a postcard from Batumi, sent from Israel.

The stamp used for the postcard is the joint Israel-Georgia stamp depicting the «Umm Leisun inscription», which was found in a monastery in today’s Israel. It’s the oldest known example of Georgian writing.
